Following on from a workshop held in November 2015 the SPFS consortium attended a 1 day event in Brockenhurst, New Forest on 31st March 2017. There were 20 participants in total and the day was an excellent brain storming adventure.
It was facilitated by Dr Jamie Cleaver, an EPSRC approved trainer who hosted the previous event.
Our two researchers have won second and third prize in this year’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Photography Competition.
Dr Milos Nedeljkovic, a Research Fellow working in the field of mid-infrared group-IV photonics, won second place in the Equipment and Facilities category for his image of a silicon photonic chip.
The SPFS Programme Innovation Fund has awarded two research grants following the third call for proposals announced in November 2016:
1. "Monolithic GaSB quantum rings on silicon for telecom laser via ratio trapping technique" - Dr. Qiangdong Zhuang (Lancaster University)
2. "Developing Ultrafast Photomodulation as a toolkit for wafer-scale opt-electronic testing" - Prof. Otto Muskens (Univeristy of Southampton)
The third SPFS Steering Committee meeting was held at Novotel, Southampton. In addition to technical updates from each work package, the committee and consortium heard from the 3 Innovation Fund project teams awarded following the second call for proposals. There was also a talk from steering committee member Prof. Lionel Kimerling from MIT on AIM photonics.
The entire consortium, including Innovation Fund collaborators, were invited to join this residential event held at Careys Manor, Brockenhurst, New Forest and facilitated by EPSRC approved trainer Jamie Cleaver.
