23rd November 2016 - Announcement of the 3rd call for research proposals
The third call for research proposals to be funded by the SPFS programme's Innovation Fund has been announced. The deadline for submissions is Thursday 22nd December 2016 (12pm GMT). The full text of the call can be found here and the associated terms & conditions here.
15th September 2016 - 3rd Steering Committee Meeting
The third SPFS Steering Committee meeting was held at Novotel, Southampton. In addition to technical updates from each work package, the committee and consortium heard from the 3 Innovation Fund project teams awarded following the second call for proposals. There was also a talk from steering committee member Prof. Lionel Kimerling from MIT on AIM photonics.
11th & 12th November 2015 - Creativity@Home
The entire consortium, including Innovation Fund collaborators, were invited to join this residential event held at Careys Manor, Brockenhurst, New Forest and facilitated by EPSRC approved trainer Jamie Cleaver.
6th October 2015 - 2nd Steering Committee Meeting
The second meeting of the SPFS Steering Committee took place on 6th October in Jury's Inn, Southampton. Each work package presented their progress to date and our Innovation Fund partners from the first call also attended to provide an overview of their funded projects.
21st September 2015 - SPFS Programme Innovation Fund
The SPFS Programme Innovation Fund has awarded three research grants following the second call for proposals in July 2015.
1) "Hybrid Organic-Silicon Lasers", submitted by Prof William Gillin from QMUL
2) "Radio, Optical and Digital design for UHD transceivers", submitted by Prof Andrew Ellis from Aston University
3) "High Capacity Real Time 4k Video Transmission using Silicon Photonics", submitted by Prof Peter Wilson from Bath University
13th July 2015 - Announcement of 2nd call for research proposals
The second call for research proposals to be funded via the SPFS programme's Innovation Fund was announced on 13th July. The deadline for submissions is 26th August 2015 (17:00 GMT). The full text of the call can be found here and associated terms & conditions here.
29th January 2015 - SPFS Programme Innovation Fund (1st Call)
Following the call in July 2014, the SPFS Programme Innovation Fund has awarded two research grants to the following proposals:
1) "Mass Assembly of Microdisk Lasers on Silicon Photonics Devices", submitted by Dr Steven Neale from University of Glasgow
2) "Scalable, Parallel Integration of III-Vs on SOI", submitted by Dr Marc Sorel from University of Glasgow and Dr Michael Strain from University of Strathclyde.
These grants became effective on 1st December 2014.
8th October 2014 - RA positions available in Silicon Photonics Group within SPFS and Cornerstone programmes
One postdoc RA position, mostly associated with modelling of photonic
devices and circuits, is currently available within SPFS Programme.

The first Steering Committee meeting of SPFS programme was held on Wednesday, 9th July 2014 in Southampton.
7th July 2014 - Announcement of 1st call for research proposals
The first call for research proposals that will be funded via the SPFS programme Innovation Fund was announced on 7th July. The deadline for the submission is 5th September 2014 (17:00 GMT). The full text of the call can be found here .
June 2014 - New appointment
Taha Ben Masaud has been appointed as a research assistant working on a multilayer 3D photonic platform.
April 2014 - New appointment
Rob Topley has been appointed as a senior research assistant working on erasable grating couplers for waferscale testing of photonic components.
January 2014 - Appointments and new associate members
Six new appointments within the project have been announced:
David Thomson, Youfang Hu, Li Ke, Antulio Tarazona, Ali Khokhar and Stevan Stanković, all from Southampton University.
William Whelan-Curtin of St Andrews University has joined the programme as an associate member and is to be involved in the work on the modulator development.
December 2013 - Start of the project
Project "Silicon Photonics for Future Systems", funded by EPSRC programme grant, started on 12th December 2013.
